Grandma Great - Dora Turley

Mother's Day, May 10, Ray took his Mother a lemon

meringue pie (her favorite).

Grandma has been in Priceless Adult Care for the

past three years. They took excellent care of her.
On Monday, May 18 Dora passed away peacefully
with her son Ray (Buster) and daughter Doreen by her side.
She was 101 years old. Verda, the nurse who took care of her
told us it was such a pleasure for her to care for Grandma.
She was always grateful and appreciative of everything,
she never complained, and was pleasant all the time.
Verda told us this was the happiest three years of her life.
Grandma raised eight children, she had 42 grandchildren,
117 great grand children, and 39 great great grandchildren.
She left a great legacy.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

On Mother's Day, I set my table with this china

in memory of my mother and to honor her.

This was her first set of china.

When she was first married (1938) she went to

work at the White Cafe in Winslow to get the money to

purchase this beautiful set. She put the 12 piece set

of china on lay away and worked until it was paid for.

My mother passed away last October at the age of 89.

She was a grand lady. She loved to cook and she

always set a beautiful table. The day before she died

she gave a dinner party and her table looked

beautiful and the food was excellent.

On this Mother's Day, I would like to honor

all woman by quoting from Matthew Cowley (a former

member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (1976).

"You sisters belong to the great sorority of saviorhood.

You may not hold the priesthood. Men are different, men

have to have something given to them to make them

saviors of men, but not mothers, not women.

You are born with an inherent right, an inherent authority

to be the saviors of human souls. You are the co-creators

with God of his children. Therefore, it is expected of you

by right divine that you be the saviors and the

regenerating force in the lives of God's

children here upon the earth."

Women are the crowning jewel of all God's creation.

Ray attends Father & Sons Outing

Ray just returned from camping at Oak Flat. He attended the Father & Son's outing for our ward and it looks as though he had a great time.

They had lunch in Superior. Here is Camdon (grandson).
This is where he slept, in the back of his covered wagon which he designed himself.

Howard was able to come with us and he had a great time visiting with his friend Aaron. They both grew up together in this ward.

Trevon (another grandson) & Richard were able to take Friday off and we all traveled together.

It was a great time!

April Fools!

I guess the joke's on us. We were played. Jim & Richard along with their wives convinced their kids that they were going on a trip with us to California. The kids were packed and ready to go so you can imagine our surprise when they all showed up with their bags in tow. They had pillows and blankets. Sun hats and bathing suits. Spending money and excitement. We thought maybe they had all shown up for a sleepover at Grandma & Grandpas. We were delighted! The joke came out soon enough and we all had a good laugh. Thank goodness for kids and grandkids who keep life fun! Love you all.

Trip of a Lifetime

What a wonderful experience we have had with 6 of our grandchildren. We took them to Palm Springs, CA

Torrin (Jim's) and Jaron (Richard's) were shocked when we told them about the trip we were taking.

Grandpa wasn't used to so much excitement. He was tuckered out!

Jaden (Jim's) and Camdon (Richard's) were pretty excited about the trip when we told them. They were the youngest and oldest that came to Palm Springs with us.

Camdon (Richard's) sure does love his Grandpa.

Jaron(Richard's) and Zale (Jim's) even played games in the car the whole way there. They are only 6 weeks apart in age and sure have fun together.

As Ward Activity Chairmans, Ray and I were in charge.

We had a lot of good help and the evening was a success.

We had 100 passengers on board.

Marcy, my daughter-in-law, decorated a beautiful backdrop

where passengers could have their pictures taken

and she was also the photographer.

co-charimans Anna Mae and Ken McTeer.

This is Trevon (Richard and Marcy 's 2nd) and his friend Brigham.

We had 14 YM and YW help serve the meal. They did a

tremendous job.
Captain Smith greeted each person that came on board.

They were the Host and Hostess for the evening.

There were 14 porthole paintings around the room

which gave you a feeling of looking out on the ocean.

Our menu was Chicken Cordon Bleu, Garlic Mashed Potatoes,

Green Bean wrapped in Bacon, Mandarin Orange Salad with

Poppy Seed Dressing, Dinner Rolls, and Carrot Cake
The fruitfall was beautiful. It was the creation of

Marcy Burr.

Kellie was the guest speaker. She talked about

relationships with spouses, friends, family, and

even the check out clerk. She ended with the poem

written by my mother "Notice the Roses" which

is on an earlier blog of mine.

Teagon Rogers, my nephew's son. He has the BEAT!!

He was a big hit and I thank him for standing in at the

last minute
I am so grateful to my family for their help and support.

I did have a picture of Jim's family on this blog, but somehow

I lost it. I am still learning.

FYI - Richard's family, Kellie and Ray and I

are all in the same Ward.

Notice the Roses

My prince charming brought to my office yesterday

a heart-shaped red velvet cake (which he baked himself),

alone with milk, plates, napkins, cups, etc., to wish us all

a Happy Valentine's day

He even dressed up for the occasion.

What an example of love.

Everyone enjoyed the delicious cake and

I say thank you to this handsome husband of mine.

Doesn't he have the bluest eyes!

This goat is Taco and he belongs to Howard, our youngest son.

His birthday was February 1 and he is 34 years old.

His sweet wife gave him what he wanted

for his birthday - a goat.

This is truly an example of love.

Howard kept saying he wanted a goat to eat the

weeds in his backyard so Tiffani did research on

where to buy a goat. She found out she could possibly

get one at an auction. So the day before his birthday she

goes to an auction, (her first auction ever) bids on the goat

and brings it home to our back yard until Howard's

birthday party the next day.

This is the birthday boy with his weed eating pet Taco.

When Howard saw Taco, he was naturally surprised,

then excited.

My mother, Monreve Hardy, passed away in October,

34 years after her 'prince charming' . She wrote the following:

"Gift of Roses"

"Growing up as an incurable romantic, I was certain that when prince charming

came along on his white charger, his arms would be filled with red roses.

My tall, dark, and handsome prince would bow deeply, the shower me

with roses before sweeping me away on his trusty steed.

Indeed, I did find my prince. He was tall, dark and handsome. But I should

have recognized some flaws in my plan when his white charger turned into a

Santa Fe train and there were no longed for roses.

Several completely flowerless years passed. Then as I was about to

resign myself to a life without roses, a wonderful thing happened.

I began to see that roses are where you find them. They don't always

have red velvet petals or long green stems. This prince of mine had

been showering me with roses all along. I had just failed to notice."

Let's all notice the roses on our journey of life.

Draper Temple

We recently took a trip to Utah. We had the opportunity

of going to the Draper Temple Open House

As you can see it was a cloudy day

The granite used to build this temple came from China

The temple was beautiful and as you entered

the Celestial Room the peace that was felt there

was different from the rest of the temple

We felt that this was a perfect way to end our trip

A Saturday with Zale

Last Saturday Zale (Jim) and Camdon (Richard) spent the day with me.

We had a GREAT time. We played Sequence. Zale won.

Zale had a party to go to that evening and she wanted

to take cupcakes. We had fun making confetti cupcakes.

She wanted blue frosting and sprinkles.

Don't they look yummy. Good job Zale.
